West40 partner school district Cicero District 99 recently made a big splash in the nation's capital as the Unity Junior High Underwater Robotics Team Phoenix placed 3rd internationally in the Middle School Technical Design Report Category.
The participating students traveled to Washington D.C. to compete against teams from all over the United States, Puerto Rico, Brazil and more at the Eppley Recreation Center. According to the District, there were a total of 147 teams competing with over 800 students from 2nd grade to 12th grade.
The team also visited the Capitol Building, Lincoln Memorial, Smithsonian Air & Space Museum, Washington Monument, and even caught a Washington Nationals baseball game.
The District is super proud of the team and said it will encourage incoming junior high students to see how they can get involved in the Underwater Robotics program.
